Visas for immigration to South Africa
Should you wish to immigrate to South Africa, you will be required to apply for a visa. Visas and permits to South Africa can strictly only be issued by The Department of Home Affairs.
The specific type of permit or visa for immigration purposes which you should apply for is determined by the activity which you choose to undertake during the process of relocating to South Africa.
The available South African visas are:
Work Visa: Anyone who wants to work in South Africa, must apply for a work visa. Both temporary and permanent residency are available. To be eligible for permanent residency however, 5 years on a temporary visa is a requirement.
Spousal and Life Partner Visas: These visas are available to the spouses and life partners of South African citizens or permanent residents. Same-sex partnerships qualify too.
Relative’s Visa: First or second kin family members of South African citizens or permanent residents can apply for a relative’s visa to immigrate to South Africa.
Retired Visa: To spend your retirement years in South Africa, apply for a retired visa. The approval of the visa is subject to meeting certain financial requirements.
Business Visa: Foreigners who want to set up or buy a business in South Africa, or who want to enter into a partnership, must first apply for a business visa.
